Neal's Yard Remedies - Going Cult | Review

19:49

Neal's Yard Remedies are trying to save the world, one blue bottle at a time. Established in 1981 as an apothecary, the company grew to build eco-factory and become the first carbon neutral high street retailer. Neal's Yard Remedies (NYR) have a fantastic ethical approach to their work, they try to improve the lives of both the customers who purchase their products, but also the workers who grow and harvest the ingredients. There is a strong stance on the fair treatment of employees, NYR travel around the worlds to meet the farmers in fields and ensure they get paid fair wages. This provides employment to the locals, promotes female independence, helps to support communities and improve education.

This cult product was included in the organic beauty box in the sample size, hence it does not appear in the classic blue pot. The beauty of this beauty balm (pun intended) is that is has a multitude of uses - deep cleanser, rich mask, lip balm, body moisturiser etc. Of course, this is applicable to the majority of balms. What I really enjoy is the soft texture of the balm which melts at my fingertips.

Wild Rose is the main ingredient and helps to achieve the luxurious and balanced rose aroma of the balm. Rose oil is renowned to be soothing, anti-ageing and balancing, making it a fantastic option for many skin types. However, another star ingredient which is frequently given much less spotlight, but makes me want to dunk my entire face into this goodness is (drumroll please) hemp seed oil. I know how it sounds but hemp seed oil does not contain any psychoactive compounds (THC) so any desires to have a cookie cannot be blamed on your skincare. Hemp seed oil contains high amount of omega 3 and 6 which are necessary for healthy skin. Moreover, it contains these lovely omegas is JUST RIGHT proportion. Low levels of omega 6 (a.k.a. Linoleic acid) have also been found in people suffering from acne so do you see why I want to smother myself in it? If you have dry skin, do not switch off because high levels of amino acids, antioxidant vitamin E and vitamin A precursor (carotene) help to alleviate dryness, itching, inflammation and balance the skin. I mean, why are not rushing off to buy some stuff for yourself right now?

While this balm is a multipurpose product, it is too expensive (in my humble opinion) to be used as a cleanser that will be washed off in a matter of minutes. Balms are too heavy for my oily skin too so I prefer to use this miracle product as a moisturiser for eczema patches on my legs and as a soothing barrier after shaving my armpits. While it is very soothing to my dry patches during dry and cold winter months, the balm did not make them completely disappear.

There are many satisfied customers who swear by this balm and even though a little can go a long way, £40 for a 50ml pot of 99% organic all natural and high-quality ingredients is not very affordable for the majority. If you got excited by the amazing properties of hemp seed oil, I can suggest a cheaper alternative - Hemp Moisturiser by MuLondon which will leave you £19 out of pocket for a 60ml tub (100% organic, natural and vegan).
