Natural Beauty Box

The Natural Beauty Box - February 2017 Edition | Review

18:04

So it has been a week since the second box from the Natural Beauty Box has landed on my doorstep. Ever since receiving the first box in January I was anticipating for the next box to arrive. The February box is titled "Kissed by the Sea" and as before the box is priced at £24.95 for subscribers (with free P&P) however the overall price of the box contents is £65. Similar to the previous time, all products have been announced on The Natural Beauty Box Instagram account before the box has been sent out. I do love this feature because if I only get to find out what is in a subscription box when I receive it I tend to be disappointed. As a bonus to the subscribers, a 35% discount code has been sent to be used for one of the brands included in this box.

Cruelty-Free and Selling in China?

17:36

I was writing a review about a product when I came across information on the company's website that they sell in China. Before you gasp in horror, the company clarifies in their FAQ section that they manufacture the stock in China, therefore, class as domestic which allows them to bypass pre-market cosmetic animal testing. You say "Hooray, they are cruelty-free".

Om She Aromatherapy - Miracle Body Oil | Review

Ah, my favourite lie I like to tell myself is "I am only popping to TK Maxx to have a look". And I know when I am telling this to myself I will leave with at least a new candle (or more like 60 quid lighter and with 2 bags of shopping). I do love browsing their skincare section because you might be able to pick up a few bargains (such as Organic Surge are always are cheaper than RRP) or come across brands which otherwise are hard to find in UK (such as my beloved Deep Steep) or just explore the brands you have never heard of (such as this one I am about to write the review).

Do you have products that you love and no matter how many innovations and "miracle" ingredients the skincare market comes up with, for you they remain a gold standard and a permanent resident in your stash? Today I wanted to share my all time favourites.

Recipe: Quinoa, potatoes and brussels sprouts Post Work Out Punch

How much quinoa do I need to cook? That is the question because it will expand during cooking. Quinoa comes as little grains so it is easy to over-estimate (and I will raise up my hand to admit I do this every single time). Quinoa is an amazing superfood, packing the highest amount of protein per gram (including all essential amino acids), plus fibre, calcium, omega-3, magnesium, vitamin E etc. Similarly, brussels sprout pack a hefty amount of fibre, Vitamins K and C, folate, protein, iron and other micronutrients. I guess I am very lucky to have a natural love towards brussels sprout and I do not have to force myself to eat all that goodness.

This vegan, simple and nutritious meal is one of my favourites and I find it is amazing after a workout. It can also double as a terrific lunch for the next day after your leftovers will soak up all the flavours. It is very quick and easy to make and if you do not have all ingredients on hand, just substitute! The possibilities are endless!

Mallow and White

Morning Moisture - Pai and Mallow & White | Review

During winter even my oily skin needs a little extra TLC. When people talk about dehydrated skin it gives an impression that skin needs extra water. That is not the case, the skin needs oil. Natural skin lubricator, sebum, is an oily substance secreted by sebaceous (oil) glands to keep our skin protected against harmful environmental stress. You may have noticed that moisturiser absorbs faster than face oil however oil is better at nourishing the skin at a much deeper layer. With these principles in mind for over a year I have been mixing my moisturiser and face oil as part of my mourning routine.

Natural Beauty Box

The Natural Beauty Box - January 2017 | Review

I love subscription boxes and I feel very recently there has been a boom of subscription box companies - or maybe I just come across them more often. Some of the most popular UK boxes are not natural nor carry exclusively cruelty-free brands.

I have been following The Natural Beauty Box on Instagram for a while and thought the new subscription service box ticks a lot of my requirements - natural, cruelty-free, good "power of bargain". I have been tempted by the account's lovely photos and finally decided to take a plunge.

The Natural Beauty Box promises to send 4-6 skincare and beauty products using both well-established and small artisan brands. Each box costs £24.95 (including P&P) and new subscribers can get 10% off the 1st box by subscribing to the newsletter. There is also a small discount if you purchase 3 or 6 month subscription. 50p from each box will go to a charity with a different charity being supported each month (I am not sure which charity was supported with January boxes). The products with parabens, SLS and harsh ingredients will be avoided. All products have been tried and tested by the head of the company herself so the customers are getting only the most highly recommended and loved items.

Bluebird Tea Co

Confessions of a tea addict - Bluebird Tea Co | Review

16:30

I said it before and I will say it again - I love tea. Especially when the weather is cold and rainy, I like nothing more than to put on my PJ's, light on a candle and curl in with a hot cuppa (OK, having a piece of cake would be a cherry on top). In the past few months, I was looking to discover new tea blends. The problem I find is that a lot of tea companies mainly carry simple blends like breakfast tea, peppermint and earl grey. There is nothing wrong with these cupboard staples and nation favourites but I was really looking for something more exciting, something I would look forward to trying. After a simple search I stumbled upon Bluebird Tea Co and oh boy, I think I found myself! They currently have 79 tea blends and 10 different matcha flavours (counted on 08.02.2017)! What other company has such diverse range? And more important, the tea is made from quality ingredients so none of that paper bag-dust-nonsense!

Every time you open a bag you get a chance to truly appreciate the beauty of the blend. Every leaf, fruit, herb. It is like a work of art! It is easy to become mesmerised with the content, however, the best is still to come. I prefer to brew my tea in Qunona tea strainer set because I find very little tea (if any) manages to escape the strainer.  The smell which comes from brewing tea is simply incredible and the taste is very full and rich.

Madara

Review: Madara Time Miracle Day Cream

21:03

Vegan, cruelty-free, gluten-free

Disclaimer first - this was a free sample I have picked up on Naturisimo website. In order to get it, I had to purchase something, for which I had paid with my own money.

I love samples! Mainly because I love trying different things but also because they allow you to try a product without having to splurge out for a full version which you might not like. Unfortunately, there are no shops with extensive green beauty stock and availability of samples where I live hence I rely on online retailers to obtain my samples. Naturisimo is one of my favourites because they have regular '10-15% off' promotions and a good variety of samples. Unfortunately not everything on their website can be sampled which would have been especially useful for makeup when you really do need to try foundation before you pay £30 for a bottle which might be of wrong shade. From time to time some of their samples become free hence I picked up this moisturiser when shopping for something else. RRP is £38 for 50ml.

I have used Madara before and I have generally liked everything I have tried from them. Madara is a Latvian brand which uses natural and organic ingredients in their products. One of the biggest selling points is that they do not use water, instead, they use birch water (or sap) which is native to the Baltic regions. Birch sap is full of nature elements, such as potassium, zinc, magnesium, calcium and phosphorus, as well as amino acids. It is great for drinking but I have not seen another skincare company which uses birch water. Water as the main ingredient is one of my pet peeves - a lot of the natural and 'green' beauty products are pricey hence I feel like they could maximise the benefit of their products if something more nourishing is used instead of water, such as aloe vera. Using birch water to me feels like taking the ingredients game a step higher!

The Vegan London Nom-Nom Travels

20:57

You can have a mixed opinion about London but one thing you cannot deny - there is plenty of choice. And that is fantastic when it comes to eating out as a vegan. You might be lucky to have a completely veggie/vegan cafe or restaurant in you city but for a lot of vegans eating out can still be a struggle. If your friend group is not entirely veggie, you can feel isolated with your salad and chips (thank heavens for these safe options available at almost every dinning) while others are tucking into their far more exciting looking dishes. Do not get me even started on the dessert! After a few trips like this you would definitely start to dream of a local veggie cafe where staff can confidently advice according to your dietary requirements and do not confuse gluten free with vegan (these are not synonyms!).

For me, travelling to a new city always involves exploring what local vegan cuisine has to offer. In fact, most of the time going for a vegan snack is first on my to-do list (priorities, right?). My saviour is The Happy Cow mobile phone app (free version available) which allows you to search your area for vegan, veggie, veggie-friendly and health stores. The app also has the opening times, the price category, address, external links and sometimes reviews and photos from previous visitors. While the information is abundant, I would definitely advice you to check the official source (Facebook or website) of any particular place you are going to because I have been caught out with places being closed for vacation and moving to an alternative place.
