Nourish Beauty Box April 2017 - Review

00:21

Nourish Beauty Box is a subscription service based in the USA. Their selling point? All of the products included in the monthly box are vegan, gluten-free, cruelty-free. What about P&P charges you say? They are included too! That's right, free worldwide tracked shipping. In fact, the customs must have also been pre-paid because I did not have to pay any additional fees when this lovely box finally founds its way into my hands. The subscription service is available on the rolling monthly, 3 monthly and 6 monthly services, ranging from $31.95 to $34.95 per box. The products tend to be revealed in the middle of the month, however, you are guaranteed to get the same items in you order the box before the end of the said month. Why it is great? If you are like me and you do not like surprises, you do not have to be subscribed before you find out the contents. Also, if you happen to catch a glimpse of the box you really like on someone else's IG post, you will probably have enough time to get a box yourself. Frequently, previous boxes are also available in the online shop for $45.

Previously, the subscription included 3 full sized items plus a canvas shopping bag. Now, the boxes seem to arrive with 3 items plus the company own's nail varnish. The value is promised to be at least $70, however, I believe all boxes had a bigger value. The Nourish Beauty Box promises to deliver ingredient conscious, natural, organic and wildcrafted goodness without parabens, triclosan, phthalates, GMO and pesticides. While all of these are very good claims, the previous boxes contained some items which I would never put on my skin - paraffin, long Ms, triethanolamine. Having both vegan and gluten-free items is a high demand so the company seems to recurrently feature products from 2 companies - an item from Peony Cosmetics and Seraphine Botanicals have always been featured in every box. Some of the items from their ranges do stretch the definition of natural or ingredient conscious. I have emailed the brands querying about the source of fragrance in the products and have been assured artificial fragrances are not used and all fragrances come from a natural source. Other brands featured in the previous boxes include Barefoot SOS, Juice Beauty, Tisserand, Saiva, Prim Botanicals, Balanced Guru, Siskyn and Velvet Organics.

April box seems to have a very rich golden theme, with every item boasting sunshine colour.

Seraphine Botanicals Chia and Camellia Eye Shadow Palette RRP $52 for 10g

This is the star item of the box (in my humble opinion) which actually convinced me to get a subscription. The handy set contains a mixture of matt, lustrous and shimmering eye shadows. The shades are well composed and allow to achieve a variety of neutral/natural looks and also kick up some drama if you are in the mood for it. Very pretty golden compact hosts these eyeshadows which perform very well - they are smooth, blend easily, produce good pigmentation and provide a moderate wear on my oily eyelids. Due to its versatility, this is a fantastic travelling compact. The only source of the potential problem could be talc because some people are sensitive to it.

INGREDIENTS / INGRÉDIENTS : talc**, mica**, magnesium myristate**, silica**, kaolin**, ethylhexyl palmitate**, camellia sinensis leaf oil*, salvia hispanica (chia) seed oil*, sorbic acid**. [+/- (may contain/peut contenir) titanium dioxide (CI 77891)**, iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)**]

Peony Cosmetics A New Beginning - Pumpkin Pre-Cleanse Cream RRP $36 for 50ml

This light cream is designed to take away makeup and dirt build up before a second cleanse. The company claims that this cream is infused with pineapple and ginger extracts plus skin-loving pineapple and lupin seed oils can even take off stubborn mascara and condition lashes. I was rather hesitant to try it because of glycol and tetrasodium EDTA in the ingredients which are penetration enhancers and sensitisers.

The pump is very convenient for dispensing product and I used about 4 pumps per one cleanse. The consistency is very light and spread evenly, leaving behind a smell of pineapples. After approximately 15 seconds of putting this cream on my face, my skin began to sting. I was able to tolerate it for another 10 seconds before having to wash off. I was very surprised because I do not have sensitive skin. I have only managed to use this cream two more times before giving up. Even though the description suggests it has been designed for eyes too, I would not risk putting this pre-cleanse near my eyes since it burns so much on my face. I will have to reuse this cream as a sponge cleanser instead.

INGREDIENTS / INGRÉDIENTS : water (aqua)**, propanediol**, propylene glycol, peg-6 caprylic/capric glycerides**, ananas sativus (pinealpple) fruit extract*, phenoxyethanol**, xanthan gum**, caprylyl glycol**, lactobacillus ferment**, zingiber officinale (ginger) root extract*, tetrasodium EDTA, lactic acid**, sodium hydroxide**, oryza sativa (rice bran) oil*, hydrolyzed lupinus albus (white lupine) seed extract*, fragrance (parfum), cucurbita pepo (pumpkin) seed oil**, phenethyl alcohol**. Nourish Nails Follow Your Bliss RRP $12.50 for 15ml

Nourish Beauty Box own creation of water based nail varnish formulated without controversial ingredients found in the conventional nail varnished. This water-based resin formula is both water and air permeable, helping to keep nails healthy and shiny. The description promises the formula to also be quick drying and long lasting which I did not find to be the case, although I did only apply one thick coat instead of multiple coats. No base and/or coats are available from the range to prolong wear. I found this nail polish to be very similar to Little Ondine formula, which allows the nail polish to be easily peeled off.

INGREDIENTS / INGRÉDIENTS : water (aqua)**, styrene/acrylates copolymer, acrylates copolymer, ppg-2 butyl ether, sorbic acid**. [+/- (may contain/peut contenir) mica**, titanium dioxide (CI 77891)**, iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)**, manganese violet (CI 77742), blue 1 lake (Cl 42090), red 6 lake (Cl 15850), red 7 lake (Cl 15850), red 33 lake (Cl 17200), red 28 (CI 45410), yellow 5 lake (Cl 19140), yellow 6 lake (Cl 15985), red 40 lake (Cl 16035)]

The overall value of the box is $131.50 with 4 full sized items it feels like a treat to your door. I would like to see more products which have truly ingredient-conscious ingredients and less controversial ingredients. I have bought a prepaid plan so I would like to see what selection will appear next.
