LoveLula May 2017 Beauty Box

22:54

I quite enjoyed my last LoveLula Beauty Box and so I decided to keep the subscription going. The Beauty Box is still £12.50/month with free P&P within the UK with overall value frequently more than twice of what you pay and the contents are kept as a secret. LoveLula is a natural online store, however, it is not possible to have a preference for a fully vegan or gluten free box. Everyone receives the same contents except for international buyers for whom nail varnish and/or perfume will be substituted for something of equal value. I have found about the contents of the box from an Instagram post before I returned home to discover mine was sitting patiently on the stairs.

Oragio London Styling Mist For Natural Hold And Volume RRP £16 for 60ml

Created by independent London hair salon, the products are packed with organic plant extracts and essential oils, helping to condition hair and make it strong and shiny. This full-size pre-styling treatment is designed to boost volume and help to make hair more manageable. The complex MICROKERA, made up of hydrolysed keratin (protein usually found in hair) and argan oil, helps to repair damaged hair. Among other ingredients, you can find lemon zest which boosts shine (and smells amazing), soothing oats and nourishing pro-vitamin B5. I do not style my hair and, in fact, I do very little with my hair apart from washing it every other day and try to have weekly hair oil masks which make my hair very soft and shiny. Nonetheless, I love these kinds of leave-in spray, I use them after hair washing and let my hair air dry. My only complaint is that it has honey so not vegan-friendly.

Ingredients: aqua, panthenol*, argania spinosa kernel oil*, hydrolyzed keratin*, tocopherol*, beta-glucan*, hydroxypropyltrimonium honey*, saccharum officinarum extract*, citrus limon peel extract*,coco-glucoside*, pantolactone*, polysorbate 20*, parfum***, chitosan*, lactic acid*, algin*, gellan gum*, maltodextrin*, malic acid*, polyquaternium-10*, phenoxyethanol, benzyl alcohol, potassium sorbate, benzoic acid, sorbic acid*, dehydroacetic acid, ethylhexylglycerin*, limonene**, linalool**, citronellol**, geraniol**, citric acid**, eugenol**, citral**

Laidbare DIY! Two in One Cleanser And Toner RRP £6.99 for 125ml

Laidbare is the brand renowned for their affordability yet still delivering the natural ingredient list. This full size two-in-one product promises to remove all traces of makeup, even eye makeup, however, I am not sure I would skip the toner step in my skincare because I always find that toner helps to remove the last bits of makeup or a face mask residue. The front of the tube proudly says there are no petrochemicals, sulfates, parabens etc. in Laidbare products. How big was my surprise when I turned over the tube to look at the ingredients and found, guess what, sodium coco sulfate as the second ingredient! So despite the front label, this product does have sulphates. Stephanie from Chemical of the Day has addressed the fact that sodium coco sulphate has a large chunk of sodium lauryl sulphate, hence carries same concerns of eye and skin irritation and oil stripping. Despite the fact that many natural brands use sodium coco sulphate in their products, the description on this bottle is misleading. If you are not fussy about the sulphates, the cleanser is extremely affordable and you get a very sizable bottle.

Ingredients: Aqua(water), sodium coco-sulfate(coconut), cocamidopropyl betaine(coconut), decyl glucoside(coconut), sodium chloride(sea salt), glycerin(coconut), benzyl alcohol(naturally derived preservative), coco-glucoside(coconut), linomene (essential oils), citrus medica limonum(lemon)peel oil, sodium lauryl glucose carboxylate, citrus aurantifolia(lime) oil, parfum, sucrose laurate, lauryl glucoside(coconut), dehydroacetic acid, tocopherol(vitamin E), citric acid, alcohol(coconut), aloe barbadensis(aloe vera) leaf juice, ), citral (essential oils), sodium benzoate(naturally derived preservative, pumica granatum (pomegranate)seed extract, camellia sinensis(green tea) leaf extract, glycyrrhiza glabra root extract, bertholletia excelsa(brazil nut) seed extract, purus malus(apple)fruit extractcitric extract(citrus fruits), potassium sorbate(naturally derived preservative).

PHB Ethical Beauty Gentle Moisturiser With Shea Butter and Apricot RRP £16.95 for 50ml

I am a big fan of PHB company because their ingredients are fantastic, the products are affordable and the ethical stance is applaudable. Another full sized product, it is aimed specifically at people with sensitive skin with simple yet effective ingredients like aloe vera and sunflower oil to calm, soothe and moisturise the skin prone to irritation. The formulation is scent-free to prevent upsetting the fussiest of the skins. From my online research, this moisturiser appears to be quite rich for my oily skin so I will have to pass it on to someone else. Also, the glass pot versus plastic bottle with pumps is another dilemma - glass pots are much more environmentally friendly, however, less hygienic. On the other hand, bottles with pump function are usually made from plastic but can help to preserve the freshness of a product for longer.

Ingredients: Aqua, Aloe barbadensis** (Organic Aloe) leaf extract, Helianthus annuus** (Organic sunflower), Butyrospermum parkii** (Organic Shea Butter), Cetearyl alcohol, Stearic acid, Cetyl alcohol, Veg Glycerin**, Prunus Armeniaca** (Oranic Apricot) Kernel Oil, Phenethyl alcohol, Caprylyl glycol, Glyceryl stearate, Coco glucoside, Tocopherol, Phytic acid, Benzyl alcohol, Sodium Bicarbonate. **Ingredients from Organic Farming

John Masters Organics Lavender Rosemary Shampoo for Normal Hair and Citrus and Neroli Detangler RRP £5.50 for 60ml each

I love JMO products and my favourite is rose and apricot hair milk. I am not the only person who loves their products since I have encountered many customers raving about the shampoo they have tried from the range. These two travel-sized bottles are an excellent way to try before you splurge on full sized bottles (which are quite expensive) or just toss into the gym or a weekend bag. JMO have a high proportion of organic and high-quality ingredients. My only complaint? The Japanse Honeysuckle extract which is present in many of their products. This ingredient has a questionable reputation of being a "natural paraben", hence I try to avoid it and I do not use products containing it on a regular basis. If you love the formula but not this ingredient, there are some alternatives of JMO range for you, such as unscented versions, spearmint and meadowsweet shampoo, and lavender and avocado conditioner.

The overall value of this box is £50.94, however, bearing in mind I will not be using the moisturiser and the cleanser, the value to me is not that great.
