Catching waves with Deep Steep

I started using Deep Steep products many many moons ago and I still love their products just as much as I did when this lovely discovery was made.

This USA based company used to be available in the UK, however, for unknown to me reasons, all of the stockists have discontinued their products. Two out of three items below are actually from my old stash that I have purchased through the Feeling Unique website, the other was bought through Amazon when no local stockists were left. Currently, these products can only be imported from abroad and every time I have raised this fact on their social media, I was directed to purchase from iHerb. One might question why would a company not refer customers to their own website instead and this could be because the official website has a flat international shipping rate of $50 which is the highest I have ever seen. Fortunately, my local TK Maxx stocks a lot of items from the Deep Steep range. The whole range features over 15 different scent collections and I am slowly making my way through them. The majority of the products are vegan, with exception of the Fresh Honey collection and moisture sticks which contain beeswax.

Some very observant consumers might notice the ingredient labels are not to the European standards, especially when it came to fragrance. When I got in touch with customer service, it was explained the labelling is done is such way to reduce the negative connotations which are frequently associated with "fragrance" and that all of the fragrances come from a natural source.

Deep Steep Body Wash - Tangerine and Melon RRP $9.95 for 237ml

What I really like about this brand is that they substitute water for aloe vera so there are less inactive ingredients. This shower gel has a thick jelly-like consistency plus amazing summer fruit smell makes the resemblance with the dessert more prominent (do not eat it though!). I do not like using sponges for body care so I typically pour a little body wash into the palm of my hand and lather between two hands. The lather is not the strongest and I have been using natural products for long enough to know less foam means fewer surfactants which means less drying of the skin. This is my second bottle of shower gel from Deep Steep and definitely not the last!

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract, Coco Glucoside, Aroma (Organic and Wildcrafted Aroma Blend), Glycerin (Vegan), Caprylic Acid (Coconut Fatty Acid), Organic Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Organic Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid

Deep Steep Body Lotion - Tangerine and Melon RRP $9.95 for 177ml

Who does not love to smoother oneself in a cocoon of yummy smelling body lotion? Come on, raise your hand up, we all know you do. Similar to the shower gel, this body lotion is from tangerine and melon collection. And similar to the shower gel, the first ingredient is aloe vera gel, followed by skin hero - shea butter. If that was not enough, sunflower, jojoba and olive oils together with cocoa butter work to provide that TLC to the skin. Body lotion makes me think of something quite thin and runny, however, this body lotion is quite thick but without being greasy. It absorbs like a charm and does not stain the clothes. Winner! The first bottle of body lotion I have used was from the Rosemary Mint scent collection. It has a high amount of peppermint oil so when I had a stuffed nose from cold, I would use it as a hand cream before bedtime and fall asleep smelling the soothing peppermint from my hands.

Ingredients: Organic Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice***, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Cetearyl Glucoside, Cetyl Alcohol, Caprylic Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Manihot Esculenta ( Tapioca ) Root Starch, Aroma, Glycerin, Organic Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Organic Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Organic Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Citrus Tangerina (Tangerine) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Caprylic Acid, Xanthan Gum, Caprylhydroxamic Acid

Deep Steep Sugar Scrub - Passion Fruit Guava RRP $10.95 for 226g

Last but not the least is the scrub. Again, this is my second tub from the brand. This time it is a little different. When I first purchased it I did not like how oily it leaves my skin and leaves an oily residue on my bath when I lie with my back. I did not use it frequently so it eventually just went off. For some reason, I wanted to give it another go and ordered another tub, this time from passion fruit and guava range. The scrub itself is sugar in a rich base of shea and coconut butter giving it hard consistency. When applied to the skin, the exfoliation can be felt but it is not harsh. Sugar dissolves, leaving behind nourishing butter and divine smell.

I cannot remember how this ingenious idea came to my head but one day I exfoliated my legs with this scrub before shaving and realised there is a high amount of oil left on my skin. I have never tried shaving oils before but I thought because my legs are already coated in oil, I can try shaving them without using my usual shaving gel from Dr Bronner. What. A. Life. Changer. The skin on my legs felt very smooth and nourished and I had fewer razor burns. I would still go on to moisturise them afterwards but I would need to use less lotion. This scrub is almost made for it - sugar can help to prevent ingrown hairs and high amount of butter in the formula ensure a smooth razor glide and skin protection. The only downside is that oil and water do not mix well and since shaved hair will be covered in oil, cleaning the aftermath will be a little more laborious.

Ingredients: Sucrose, Passiflora Laurifolia (Passion) Fruit Extract, Psidium Guajava (Guava) Fruit Extract, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Organic Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Aroma, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract.
